User's notes

Panellus sp. is a strong possibility. The largest cap was approx 5cm. across brown but dry, yet felt sticky when touched. Growing on fallen wood close to the ground.

Ummmm; no hairy patch at point of attachment and a lot of gelatinous matter around flesh area and margin

What are the spores like? Agree gelatinous elements are found in this genus as they are also reported in Lentinellus and not all species of this latter genus are tomentose near point of attachment. However have so far been unable to find any with serrated edge to lameallae in Panellus. So at this point I could only call it an Agaric. Maybe you have a new species there!
