Sorry the characteristics of this specimen are not those of a Russula. The stem (stipe) is too long and the wrong shape, the lamellae and the cap (pileus) surface don't fit the genus Russula. I'll have to just stick with it being an Agaric. What do you think Teresa?

On the day it was a very interesting young specimen. It had the look of a very young Russula with a large amount of mycelium around the base of its very firm stipe which snapped like chalk. There was no exudate from the stipe, gills or cap flesh, yet the cap itself was tomentose.

Do you have spores and a confirmation from a 'mycologist' to verify this identification. The reason I ask is because the fibrillose cap (pileus) is not a characteristic seen in Russula species. The stem (stipe) is described in literature as generally short and stout.
