I have been able to spend periods of time very close to a number of the wombats on our property which are visible by day quite often in this heavily timbered/shaded area.

Goodness, that's a close approach. Ours aren't that tame - in that situation they'd have dived down the burrow by the time I was 5m away. Looks like it could be a young one, still a bit gormless.
