Morwell NP 31-3-3 indicates that the front brown strip may or may not be present.

Yes, it does, and the specimens on Bold Systems 4 bear this out, with a minority showing a black/brown strip on the thorax, but in none of those cases there does the yellow colouring on the head extend to the thorax. Also, none of those BS4 specimens show a brown streak along the costa of the forewing as this specimen does. However the yellow colouring on the head does extend to the thorax in this specimen, there is a brown streak along the costa of the forewing, and I think the boundary between the main yellow colouring and the black tip to the forewing is 'swept back' and is a different shape to that which is typical of M. automima. Interestingly there are only two specimens on the ALA M. automima web page which show the front brown strip missing (- see also the CNM postings for M. automima). For these reasons I am suggesting Crepidosceles timalphes may be a better fit.

Thanks for that Ian, yes Crepidosceles timalphes looks like a better fit.
