These looked like a nest of eggs. Caps were approx. 5 cms tall, 4 cms wide with no stalks seen. I found one that was on the ground broken. This had a stalk approximately 10 cms or so tall and the broken cap was approximately the same size as the largest 'eggs in the nest' (if you follow my meaning).
These fungi belong to the genus Coprinellus one of the inkcaps. I'm having trouble adding this genus to the species list. Will put up the formal id as soon as I can resolve this problem!
