User's notes

Small black cap with creases dividing it equally into quarters. Cap was 4 cms across and 11 cms high. Stalk was 1 cm thick and, like the cap, very firm. Gills and stalk the same colour, white, but the stalk was hairy.

Good images. There can be a bit of variation in this 'group' of species in colour and size. As there hasn't been enough research done on the Australian species they tend to be grouped together as 'radicata group'. Sometimes you will see them referred to as Oudemansiella gigaspora.
