A fungi at the edge of a carpark on a headland above Heywards Beach.

It is typical of this genus to appear in the most inhospitable environments such as road edges. They have been recorded breaking up the runway at an airport in Darwin!! They are mycorrhizal (myco - fungus, rrhizal - root, 'fungus root') and therefore are associated with the roots of a nearby tree/s where both partners are benefitting from the association. Good image.
