User's notes

A huge number of Short-tailed Shearwaters were migrating south at the same time as the Humpback Whales to their breeding areas in Tasmania and Victoria. 2013 was a particularly bad year for these birds, as a very high proportion were exhausted from the lack of food somewhere along their long route back from the northern Pacific, as was this bird desperately foraging for food just a metre away from Tathra Wharf. It could barely take off and fly away. Many did not make it, and perished along the NSW south coast.
