Because there are so many scarab beetles, and the definitive taxonomy is so limited, it is sometimes difficult to differentiate between melolonthine, ruteline and dynastine species. Many of the defining characters for these 3 subfamilies lie on the legs and how the tarsal claws sit on the far end of the legs. So this specimen may be a Heteronyx species, but there are least 300 known and named Heteronyx species and a further (possibly) 200 known but unnamed Hetoronyx species - so I would be keen to examine the specimen, and particularly the legs, before giving a definitive identification.
