Colour may be due to age. Though 'teeth' put it near one of the Hydnum, Hydnellum or even a Sarcodon sp. with that dark colouring. Never seen one like it before!! What do you think Teresa? Have you seen similr species in your region?

The pale perimeter of the cap and the long woody stipe look very like the Phellodon niger found recently within the Bodalla State Forest
