Sminthopsis sp. (genus) (Dunnart)

Dunnarts (Sminthopsis species) can be very difficult to distinguish. Based on distribution maps in the latest Field Guide to the Mammals of Australia (Menkhorst & Knight, 2011) only White-footed Dunnart can occur on the NSW far south coast and East Gippsland.  Sminthopsis sp. category has been created to accommodate records of other species, which are probably White-footed Dunnart, but were not originally identified as such.
