The abdomen is widest at the posterior end. They are often brightly coloured and small.

Genus: Dicranolaius

The best known of the genus is Dicranolaius bellulus, also called the 'red and blue beetle'. It differs in having an orange tip to the ends of the elytra (the hardened front pair of wings).
