This is a pigeon-hole for those cup-like fruitbodies are apothecia and present puzzles as far as identification is concerned. For some, it may be possible to suggest an identification in the future.
The zz is there simply to force this group to the end of the alphabetic list of genera/species,
The most commonly seen larger ascomycete fruiting bodies are the ones known as the discomycetes, often called the "cup fungi". In appearance they look like shallow cups or fairly flattish disks. Such a cup or disk shaped fruiting body is called an apothecium.
An apothecium is a fruit body that, when viewed from above is generally more or less circular in outline. They range from less than a millimeter to 10 centimeters in diameter. An apothecium may be disc like, saucer like or with much greater curvature so as to mimic a cup or urn. Some have stems; some have marginal roughness or hairs, others are smooth.
These are difficult for the lay person to identify so here we can leave our images for possible future identification if the images show good detail.
