The cap, when viewed with hand lens, was thick velvety in appearance and the stipe deeply striate with dense mycelium at base - very confusing.

Probably a Tubaria. Not sure of species. The view of the underside shows the partial veil remnant very nicely and one that has an appearance similar to that in this sighting: https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/4387129.

Looks like there's a ring on the stem. Perhaps this is a species of either Galerina or Pholiotina.
